Six New York City members of Congress on the step of City Hall held a news conference with community leaders protesting the extreme cuts of the Federal Budget expect to pass in the House of Representatives this coming Thursday. The six members of congress, Charles Rangel, Nydia Velazquez, Carolyn Maloney, Elliot Engel, Anthony Weiner and Jerrold Nadler all of them will vote against the budget on Thursday.
Congressman Rangel said: "Our nation's non-profits not only provide important social srvices to individuals and families, they also provide real jobs and economic resources to our communities."
"Cutting these programs and pursuing plans to cut Medicaid, Medicare, and a variety of important investments in housing, health and the education of our children will not create jobs, but instead derail the slow economic recovery that is beginning to happen." Unfortunately they did not mention the role of the President Barack Obama with the deal he made with House Speaker John A. Boehner.
The following videos un-edited are the statement they read to members of the press.
