Hizzoner yesterday crudely praised the vice president’s fortitude by bluntly saying that the veep used some big brass to speed up President Obama’s embrace of gay marriage.
“You know, Joe Biden, you can joke about him all you want, [but] he’s got a set of balls and he says what he believes,” Bloomberg told Politico. “And he forced the focus [on gay marriage].”
Bloomberg’s praise notwithstanding, the veep reportedly apologized to Obama for staking a position on gay marriage before the president could make his own opinion public.
Obama later came out in support of gay marriage, putting himself and his vice president on the same page.
Bloomberg’s comments come just days after a New York magazine piece quoted him as paying tribute to another part of the anatomy, this one distinctly feminine.
According the magazine, Bloomberg gestured toward a woman in a tight gown and remarked, “Look at the ass on her.”
That remark, made at an exclusive Christmas party, was revealed as the mayor lauded City Council Speaker Christine Quinn as the Democrats’ only “rational” candidate for mayor.
While rounding out his marathon tenure as New York City mayor, Bloomberg has sounded off on issues ranging from gun control to global warming.
He has urged the Obama administration to take quicker and tougher action on gun control after the horrific shooting in Newtown, Conn., where 20 children and six educators were massacred.
He plans to continue his career in philanthropy and political action after his term is up.
Bloomberg recently donated $350 million to his alma mater, Johns Hopkins University.
