Mayor Mandates Rationing of Gas to Ease Shortage

A line of cars waiting for gas stretched from 96th Street and West End Avenue up to at least 105th Street on Thursday.
With long lines persisting at gas pumps, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said
an odd-even rationing rule would go into effect at 6 a.m. Friday, and
counties on Long Island announced a similar system.
