Crime in New York City has fallen 2 percent in the first 10 weeks of
this year, compared with the same period in 2013, according to Mayor
Bill de Blasio and the police commissioner.

A record 53,615 people slept in shelters in January, according to the
Coalition for the Homeless, which is hopeful de Blasio will reverse a
trend of rising homelessness it blames on his predecessor.
