Joselyn Martinez used a bit of Internet detective work to find Justo Santos, 43, who allegedly killed Jose Martínez in New York City back in 1986, according to the New York Daily News.
Joselyn Martínez spent eight years looking for traces of Santos online. He's been on the run from the law since the killing.
Cops got a huge helping hand from Martínez when she handed them "Santos’ address and phone number that she unearthed from the Internet," the Daily News reported. Police said Santos, who was hiding in Miami, confessed to the killing when he was arrested on Thursday.
“I always kept the name in mind,” Martínez told the New York Post. “After so many years of not being caught, it wasn’t a reality to me anymore.”
The Post reports that Santos will be extradited to New York.
WABC reports that Martínez scoured "sites like backgroundchecks.com and USA People Search, before finally realizing she'd found her man."
"I applaud her, it is admirable what she did, obviously she made a concerted effort and it paid off, New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said, according to WABC. "We appreciate it."
