The body of Sarai Sierra was found last week near an ancient wall in Istanbul.
The Turkish man who had sex with Sarai Sierra told police he only found
out she was missing when he received an online message from her
husband, the Daily News has learned.
The awkward exchange came on Jan. 22, the day Sierra was supposed to return home.
A few hours after Steven Sierra learned his 33-year-old wife didn’t get on the plane, he logged into one of her accounts and saw messages to a man identified as Taylan K., the man’s lawyer told The News.
Unbeknownst to Steven Sierra, Taylan had reportedly had sex with his wife inside a bar bathroom the night before.

Taylan “said that he hadn’t seen Sarai and the last time they met was on Sunday,” his lawyer, Ozkan Polat, told The News. “And then he sent the husband copies of the earlier chats.”
Steven Sierra asked Taylan to call the police, said Polat, reading from the statement his client gave cops.
Sierra’s battered body was found dumped near a stretch of ancient walls in Istanbul on Feb. 2.
Investigators believe Sierra might have been murdered by a
“professional,” The Hurriyet newspaper, one of the country’s most
respected publications, reported Friday.

Turkish cops suspect the mother of the two was lured to the killer’s Istanbul home and bludgeoned to death before her body was dumped in an area frequented by homeless people.
“The murderer killed the young woman in his house and then knowingly left the body at the walls and covered it with a blanket,” according to The Hurriyet. “His aim was to put the blame on homeless people in the area.”
Taylan, 34, who met Sierra through Instagram, told her husband the best
approach would be for him to first contact U.S. authorities.
The awkward exchange came 11 days before Sierra's battered body was found dumped near a stretch of ancient walls in Istanbul.

Authorities have taken blood and DNA samples from Taylan and some two dozen other people in connection with the slaying.
Sierra had twice met with Taylan during her solo two-week trip: on Jan.
13 and Jan. 20, Polat said. They met at bars, where they drank wine and
beer and nibbled on Turkish delicacies, including lamb intestines.
Both times, the pair split the bill and Taylan walked her home because she was living in “a dangerous neighborhood,” Polat said.
On Jan. 20, they made tentative plans to meet the following day near the Galata Bridge, but by the time Taylan awoke, he already had a message from Sierra saying she was heading out.
He went with a friend to the neighborhood where they had discussed meeting up, but they never bumped into Sierra, Polat said.
A top prosecutor has told The News Taylan is not considered a prime suspect.
