The New York Times

Michael Grymbaum reports: “A Bloomberg administration plan that would allow livery cabs to pick up street hails outside busy parts of Manhattan fell back into limbo on Wednesday, just hours after a deal on the bill seemed imminent.”

Thomas Kaplan goes behind the scenes of the governor’s tax deal: “The remarkably rapid progress of the tax revisions — without a single public hearing or town-hall-style meeting — provided the most striking illustration to date of Mr. Cuomo’s policymaking strategy: information is tightly controlled, negotiations are carried out behind closed doors and the debate is limited to just a few people.”

Columnist Michael Powell writes of the governor: “Through it all, the governor remains an intriguing piece of work. He insists he is a progressive, except when he insists he is a fiscal conservative, except when he insists he is not so easily categorized.”

Mosi Secret notes: “In 2006, a Queens state senator, Shirley L. Huntley, set up a nonprofit group called Parent Workshop that was intended to help parents navigate the inner workings of New York City’s school system. Then she began funneling state aid to the group, whose executives had close ties to her.”
