Citizen Pedro Espada has been soliciting signatures for the Senatorial race against Efrain Gonzalez, Jr. He now has enough petitioned signatures to qualify for a spot on the ballot in the September primary. However, the question remains as to how he obtained those signatures.
YFP has previously documented how Espada announced a free blood pressure screening for senior citizens where none of those duties were fulfilled. In lieu of the screening, he doled out fruit in exchange for signatures to place him o the September ballot.
Well, Petey continues with his old tactics. He recently held a "book giveaway" in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx. Free books were given away in addition to fruit. This time, pineapple was included. Apparently also included were staffers from his Soundview Health Center.
One could conclude if the the dots are connected, that federal and/or state monies earmarked for his health center were being inadvertently used to finance his campaign. And before the pineapples expire, perhaps his candidacy should also.
