BUSTED BRIT

BRITISH MILITARY MAN GETS 34 YEARS FOR ATTEMPTED COUP

Jul. 8 (GIN) –A rogue British mercenary will serve 34 years behind bars for his role in a plot to oust President Teodoro Obiang Nguema of Equatorial Guinea.

A three judge panel in the capital city Malabo, issued the sentence to Simon Mann, 55, a former SAS commando, and son of a rich family.
Leading a group of 60 mainly South African mercenaries, Mann sought to seize control of the West African state by replacing strongman Obiang with Severo Moto, an exiled opposition leader living in Madrid. He stood to earn $15 million plus lucrative security contracts had the plot gone off.
Mark Thatcher, son of Britain's former prime minister Margaret Thatcher, also played a role in the plot and an arrest warrant has reportedly been issued.
(commentary below)
This regime is to say the least barbaric and this is not something that the world is not aware of. The true horror lies with the US Oil companies who deal with this warlord in order to increase their share holders profits and further their greed. This is what sickens me more the fact if they wanted to, the respective governments in the US and the UK could apply some leverage and have this man released. This will never happen oil is too important, more than the human rights of these men on trial or the people of Equatorial Guinea. Turn a blind eye and reap the profits! For your information I lived and worked in EG for over 4 and half years. I too was guilty of profiteering from the misery of the Guinean people and am deeply ashamed.- Iain Barnes, Glasgow Scotland
